Weapons & Gear / Multicam & You
« on: March 12, 2011, 06:49:17 am »
So even though nobody comes here, including me, I thought I'd give some links to Multicam as it will most likely be our *next* uniform.

Combat Shirt:
http://www.uscav.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=17916&tabid=548
Little more money but IMO worth it
Pants:
http://bdu.com/propper-poly-cotton-twill-bdu-pants/multicam
Jacket:
http://bdu.com/propper-poly-cotton-twill-bdu-coats/multicam

Not much more than a set of Woodland anymore, and the combat shirt will be nice in the summer.

Weapons & Gear / Merlin's Guide to Batteries - WIP
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:51:12 pm »
Just wanted to take a moment to talk about batteries. I know personally when I got into airsoft I knew next to nothing about batteries, and I've learned a lot. First of all a good battery can mean everything when it comes to your AEG. Second, a small mini type battery can last you an entire two day event easily, without recharging and firing more than 4k bb's over the entire event. Third, Deans connectors can increase ROF, increase battery life, and reduce heat emitted by the battery. Fourth, the battery that came with your gun sucks and you need to replace it ASAP. Fifth, you need a smart charger and a 12v inverter for your car (just incease :P).

In my experience Elite cell batteries are the best with Intellect Bros being a decent brand. Also, more than likely the battery that came with your gun sucks and you need to replace it with a battery from http://cheapbatterypacks.com pronto (read on for more information about this company). A smart charger is a must, but if you're stuck with a trickle charge its very important you monitor the battery. This is how you determine how long to charge a battery on a trickle charger:

On the charger you will see a number and mA next to it. This is how much power the charger puts out an hour. To calculate the time you need to charge the battery for all you need to do is divide the battery Mah by the chargers mA. This gives you the time (in hours) to keep the battery on the charger.

Ok, so I know I've plugged them before, but I just got my new battery for my AK from them and the ROF is CRAZY! I didn't change anything except I switched to DEANS and put the new battery in. If you need a backup battery DO NOT order one from an airsoft retailer. Have these guys make you a custom one instead. I have a custom 9.6 3300 mah large style battery with deans in my M249, and a 9.6 1500mah stick type battery with deans on my AK, and you can bet when I make my custom M4 it will have a 9.6 custom battery with deans from them as well. If you don't want to drastically increase your ROF their 8.4 batteries are your ticket. However, they will still raise your ROF, but will also increase battery life and trigger response.

I also strongly urge everyone to switch to deans connectors if possible, and if you need any help with the cheapbatterypacks.com website (it can be a  little hard to navigate) let me know. Actually if you want to order something from them let me know and I'll just tell you what you need. Basically just make sure you have the right size battery in the right configuration with the right connector and make sure they're elite battery cells. Also, I'd go for the upgrade (not necessary on the smaller batteries a MUST on the large types though). Also, you'll need to buy an adapter for your smart charger so the large plug can go to a deans plug.

If you're in my area I can switch out your connectors to deans for you, or I can do it at a game if we're staying in the hotel. Make sure you tell me so I bring my soldering iron and heat gun and all the other crap I need. You just need to pay me back for the connectors. I can switch your existing batteries to deans as well, again make sure you let me know so I can get the connector. It should be noted, however, that at this time I am NOT doing complete rewiring jobs.

On another note, you'll want all connectors on the gun to be Male and all connectors on batteries to be female. When making an adapter for your standard smart charger it should go from large female Tamiya to a male Deans plug.

Weapons & Gear / Merlin's Guide To MOLLE - WIP
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:50:11 pm »
NOTE: The WIP in the title means it is a work in progress, feel free to comment on this guide throughout its development.

So I know a lot of members are afraid of MOLLE because of the price tag associated with it. It's true MOLLE does cost more than your average tactical vest, a lot more depending on what you put into it. However, MOLLE is also a system that can grow with the player, vary to taste and to team role/job. This guide will show you a realistic cost for a basic MOLLE system (Basic meaning everything you would need for a game with no frills so to speak). This guide will be

.:PLATE CARRIERS:.

First things first, you need a plate carrier or vest that supports MOLLE. This is your most important decision when you start a MOLLE set up. Here are some various styles that are also affordable, i.e. <$40.

-RRV (My current rig, I'll link the ASGI page but it can be had for much less on AA)
The Condor version of the RRV can be bought from Airsoft Atlanta for $33! There is also the Pantac version which allows the option of a rear plate, but it is out of the price range of the guide. The RRV is a very versatile rig and covers almost the entire front portion of the body. The only draw back to this rig is hydration, you'll need an external hydration source. Camelbak's can be found on ebay for cheap, I got mine for $15.

-MBSS (Thor's and Icepicks's Current rigs)
The Condor MBSS is a good cheap plate carrier that offers a rear carrier for hydration. The only draw back to this rig is its limited size, however it can defiantly fit everything you need for an airsoft mission on it, and you can store your non essential mission gear in the back with a backpack. It's also a very cheap rig and very comfortable once you get use to the fact that your belly will be slightly exposed.

-Ranger RACK
I have no experience with the Ranger RACK, but I do know that the people who have used it love it. The rack is one of the first MOLLE systems issued to soldiers, and its an affordable option for those who don't want the RRV. It has the same pro's and cons as the RRV.

Tactical Tailor MAV
This is a great little vest for those who want a higher end carrier with a few options. Stock this is still a great vest, but add the bib and it basically becomes an RRV, or remove the bib and but the X-harness on and you get additional support if you're carrying a heavy load. In addition to that there is a two piece model. One of the drawbacks to this vest is it is means to be worn over an OTV or other larger full torso military plate carriers, therefor the MAV lacks padding which could make it uncomfortable. Regardless, its worth a look.

.:HYDRATION:.

-Pantac MAP(Love this pack, it's a bit expensive, but worth every penny)

If you want a hydration carrier with some storage this is it! As the name suggests it is meant to go along with the MBSS PC. This pack is well made from 1000D Condura material (As are all Pantac brand items, hence the price increase from 600D Condor brand). This pack has a lot of space and in my opinion is the best looking MOLLE hydration carrier with the most function.

-Condor Hydration Carrier
Simple and straight forward, its holds your water and has space for a name tape on your back, what more could you ask for for ~$20!

-Condor Hydration Carrier w/ Storage
Same as the above carrier, but just has some room for storage. Too boxy for my tastes, but is a cheaper option to the Pantac MAP.

-Camelbak Thermobak Hydration Carriers
Good hydration carrier, although I wouldn't buy new if possible. Search Ebay for some used ones for a good price.

.:POUCHES:.

-Condor Duel AK Pouch
Overall the best deal you can get for ammo pouches as they hold multiple styles of mags. In terms of M4 use you can fit either 3 mags in one pouch, or can put two mags in and put your speed loader in the outside slot. Of course you can buy type specific pouches if you'd like for around the same price.

-Condor Belt Dump Pouch
I'd recommend this for anyone using MOLLE or not, its a good way to hold your spent mags in one spot.

-Pantac Large GP (General  Purpose) Pouch
This pouch is awesome! It's huge, made from 1000D condura, only takes up 3 MOLLE slots, and is two dollars more than Condor's crappy horizontal utility pouch. This pouch is big enough to fit almost anything you could imagine needing in a weekend of airsoft, and in my opinion one of the best pouches you can buy.

-Pantac Small GP Pouch
For those wanting a smaller GP pouch this would be it, but beware it is pretty small. Useful for fitting documents, a speed loader, and your kill rag though.

Emdom Dump Pouch
This is a high quality dump pouch made for real life operators designed in conjunction with Emdom and militarymorons. This dump pouch has a lot of great features and will defiantly server it's purpose more than a traditional dumper. I do not have one of these at the time of writing this but I will soon. Emdom makes great gear and I've yet to see something they put out that isn't high quality.

Emdom Recon Waist Bag
This bag may seem weird to most of us, but for those of up looking to downsize their carriers and need to find unique ways to fit all the odds and ends necessary to mission completion, this is the ticket. Yet another piece of gear designed by Emdom and MM, this pouch has many uses, and it's no wonder why many SF operators in A-Stan and Iraq have been seen with them on.

Emdom 3O2 Pistol Mag Pouch
Another great Emdom product, and I do actually have this one! This is the single version of their 6O4 mag pouch. This handy little pouch will hold 3 single stack (1911) mags or 2 (M9, P226, etc), while the 6o4 holds...well six or four mags. This is a great piece of kit to help reduce the amount of space needed on your plate carrier for your pistol loads. It also comes in handy while grabbing mags as you're always grabbing from the same place. I highly recommend this pouch.

Tactical Tailor 3 Mag 5.56 Pouch
This pouch is designed to hold 3 5.56 mags, but will hold two AK style mags quite well. This is another product I own (x3) and love. It took me a while to get use to the plastic MALICE clips on these, but now almost all of my pouched have them. If you have the extra money to buy these pouches over the cheaper condor ones, I would defiantly go for it.

Tactical Tailor 40mm 4rd Panel
Great for grenadiers, this will consolidate your 40mm shells in one place. Not much than that can be said, except this would be a great pouch for non grenadiers to use in conjunction with smoke.

Kaizen Viam Ducent - Kaizen Leads the Way

Team Kaizen was started with a handful of former and current paintball players looking for a different experience, we found this in airsoft. The age requirement, military sim scenarios, relative decrease in maintenance price, all while still retaining the fun and excitement we craved from paintball. Kaizen is a newer team, but we have a desire to learn. There is another "Team Kaizen" operating in the CFL area, but their primary sport is paintball. Although our names are the same we have no affiliation with each other. Unfortunately this was unknown at the time of the team's forming, and I see no reason why we can not coexist. The very meaning of Kaizen is to improve continually over time, and that's exactly what we plan on doing. Through superior teamwork, communication, and tactics we will strive to do our best on and off the field, and in the process develop friends along the way.  If you are interested in joining us, please keep these things in mind.
  • You must, in most every case, be 18 or older to participate in airsoft games. Underage members will be allowed to participate in team meeting and practices, but they will not be allowed to attend any airsoft games, as that is an issue out of our hands.
  • You must be able to work as a team member, and follow directions of the persons in command. Follow rules set in place at all times. They are there for you saftey, and the overall enjoyment of others.
  • The basic Kaizen loadout consists of M81 Woodland camo, and tan gear. Exceptions will be made on a game to game basis depending on the force we are representing, but we would like to keep the base uniform as "uniform" as possible.
  • Be a good sportsman, and have fun

Patches are now available for team members only. The price is $20 per patch, if you're interested in buying one please PM Maydie.

This page will be updated periodically, so please check back when possible.

Basically that would be the cheapest MOLLE load out you can get away with, if you want to go a little higher priced and get more space for you stuff we can do that too. That plate carrier is a steal, but keep in mind it doesn't hold a whole lot of stuff, but it does hold enough. Both Thor and Icepick used that plate carrier with similar set-up at one of Florida's biggest event recently with great success.

In addition to all of this you'll need a uniform, our default uniform is M81 Woodland Style BDU. However, uniforms can change based on the force we're representing at an event. Woodland is a good uniform to start though.
